Building Permits
The Business Council of the San Clemente Chamber of Commerce reviews and makes recommendation on local issues of concern including Legislation, Guidelines & Regulations, which may affect the prosperity of the business community of San Clemente.
In October 2009, the Business Council submitted a report to the City Manager regarding issues and concerns in the City Community Development Department Building Permitting Process.
The City hired Citygate Associates in July to conduct a review of development review processes to help them identify ways to improve their service to the community. Therefore, the Chamber report provided constructive and timely input toward this endeavor.
The final report from Citygate addressed all the Chambers concerns and more. The purpose of the Citygate report, presented to Council in February 2010, was to make recommendations on how to improve customer service for customers seeking entitlement approvals and/or building permits.
The City Community Development Department has implemented many of the thirty-nine recommendations contained in the Citygate report including: Case Managers, Weekly Status Emails from Case Managers, DMT Meeting Improvements, New Customers Academy and an extensive Follow-up process with customers.
In addition, the City established “Keep It Moving” which is an innovative program designed to assist business and property owners with their improvement plans.
The Chamber has received positive feedback regarding the streamlining of the permitting process. The City updates the Council & the Chamber on a continual basis in respect to the implementation and success of the recommendations, which we will pass along to our members.
The San Clemente Chamber of Commerce looks forward to serving our members as the #1 business advocacy organization in San Clemente. We will remain steadfast in our efforts to shape a business community in which companies of all sizes will prosper.
